To be Narcissus/Echo

The two phrases come from the following legend:
Narcissus was the son of a nymph and river Kifissos. According to the history, he was a very handsome, young man, who used to admire his excellent physical conformation on the banks of a river and try to catch his reflection in the water. But this was impossible, so he stayed there getting more and more heartbroken. On the other hand, he did not respond to the love and the call of a beautiful girl Echo. As a result, her voice was getting more and more weakened and as a result only the last syllables could be heard and slowly her voice faded out.

Meaning: The phrase ''to be Narcissus '' is used to indicate the love of beauty of a person.

Οι δυο φράσεις προέρχονται από τον εξής μύθο:
Ο Νάρκισσος ήταν γιός μιας  νύμφης και του ποταμού Κηφισού. Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση ήταν ένας πολύ όμορφος νεαρός , ο οποίος   απασχολούνταν με το να θαυμάζει συνεχώς την άριστη σωματική του διάπλαση στις όχθες ενός ποταμού και αυτοθαυμαζόμενος προσπαθούσε να πιάσει το είδωλό του στο νερό . Αυτό  όμως ήταν αδύνατο, γι’ αυτό και έμενε καθηλωμένος στις όχθες του ποταμού μαραζώνοντας, ενώ από την άλλη δεν ανταποκρινόταν στον έρωτα και κάλεσμα μιας όμορφης κόρης της Ηχούς . Αποτέλεσμα λοιπόν  ήταν η φωνή της να εξασθενεί συνεχώς  με τρόπο ώστε να ακούγονται μόνο οι τελευταίες συλλαβές και σιγά σιγά να σβήνει.


Σημασία: Η φράση ‘’είναι Νάρκισσος ‘’ χρησιμοποιείται για να δηλωθεί η ωραιοπάθεια ενός προσώπου.
