The Apple of Discord

Eris, goddess of altercation, angry because she did not receive an invitation to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, threw among the guests an apple with the inscription "Kallisti", in order to be given to the most beautiful. He did it to cause trouble and to avenge the insult. 

Meaning: Today we refer to it about "something that creates rivalries" and becomes "fights’ cause" because many wish for it.

Μήλον της Έριδος

Η Έριδα, θεά της φιλονικίας, θυμωμένη επειδή δεν έλαβε πρόσκληση για τους γάμους του Πηλέα και της Θέτιδας, έριξε ανάμεσα στις καλεσμένες ένα μήλο με την επιγραφή «τη καλλίστη», να δοθεί δηλαδή στην ομορφότερη. Το έκανε για να προκαλέσει αναστάτωση και να εκδικηθεί για τη  προσβολή που της έγινε.

Σημασία: Το λέμε για «κάτι που δημιουργεί αντιζηλίες» και γίνεται «αιτία τσακωμών» επειδή το θέλουν πολλοί.
